Golden Globes Fashions (and Fiascos)

So, the official Oscar Nominees will be listed TOMORROW. (Which I will discuss on my other blog) So, I thought now could be a good time to refresh on the honors and horrors of the Golden Globes. (Yeah, I'm about a month late, but just read on)



HONORS


Anne Hathaway - Armani
Anne's probably the best-dressed of the entire night! The style, the color, the way it looks on her figure: perfection. There's really no argument about her dress this year.




Carrie Underwood - Badgley Mischka
Carrie Underwood has a great dress that looks great with her skin tone and hair. Her makeup is also very fair, but just enough to look stunning.



Eva Longoria - Zac Posen
Regardless of the color, the cut and style of this dress is uber-flattering on Eva's figure. The train in the back helps make up for her petite stature. (Fun fact: she's only 5'1")




Hailee Steinfeld - Prabal Gurung
Very age appropriate and adorable! She's mostly known for her young and restless role in the 2010 remake of "True Grit," but she's nothing but feminine in this ensemble.




Natalie Portman - Viktor & Rolf
This dress has probably been the most debated of the night. However, she's trying to accent her baby bump, and does it quite nicely. I also LOVE how the rose and her lipstick match perfectly.




Mila Kunis - Vera Wang
Mila Kunis is always a beautiful woman, but this dress brings out her elegance and grace. The dress is beautiful and one of the only side-shoulder dress to work the way it was designed to.








HORRORS


Christina Aguilera - Zuhair Murad
She's already pretty washed up, but what was she thinking with this translucent dress? It hits her curves in all the wrong places and her makeup is a bit too strong. Next to Helena Bonham Carter (who is too hideous to even condone with a picture) this is the worst dress of the night.




Emma Stone - Calvin Klein
Most really liked the cut of this dress, which I love as well, but the color blends so much into her skin, that at first glance, she appears naked. And not to mention, the dress is so simple it's almost boring. (then again, it IS Calvin Klein)




Heidi Klum - Marc Jacobs
Too many colors and cinches, not enough dress. It's really ironic that a supermodel like Heidi Klum would pick such an atrocious outfit to wear to something as prestigious as the Golden Globes.




Leighton Meester - Burberry
This dress is wrong in about 20 different ways, but the strongest is how old and worn the dress appears. I know she's going for a "classic" look, but it seems more like she just found an old thin curtain and tied it at the waist.

Fashion Icons

I've decided to start off my blog with a notion for some of the great fashion icons, along with some of their quotes.


Coco Chanel

A french fashion designer who started the brand Chanel (with Chanel No. 5 - the best selling perfume of all time) and the "little black dress" trend. She was the one who really defined the "classic style" in fashion.

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same."

"Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman."

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous."


Calvin Klein

His most signature look is purely subtle and consistent clothes. Sometimes, he may be critiqued for this, but it's what made him such a modern legend. He also founded the American company Calvin Klein Inc., which is still one of the most successful fashion companies to date.

Audrey Hepburn

Although not a designer, she's still a huge icon, even today. Her style that created her slender figure with a short haircut. A black dress and pearl necklase is still her signature look. She contrasts her look with Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, which is what made her look so bold.

Christian Dior

Dior was a French fashion designer who shocked the world with his breathtakingly detailed pieces. He started out with just hats, but his company soon evolved into the biggest Fashion House in the world.
